Casa da Memória
Casa da Memória de Guimarães presents itself as a center of interpretation and knowledge where any local or visitor can explore the culture, territory and history of Guimarães.
Believing that learning is a dynamic process, which arises from the life experiences of each one, Casa da Memória presents an exhibition that includes material and immaterial testimonies about Guimarães. “Território e Comunidade” (territory and community) is divided into seven nuclei and addresses different aspects of Guimarães: the historical center recognized by UNESCO, the legislation, the era of censorship, the projects of the future that haven't been put into practice, curiosities about the community, industrialization, traditions, sport and every characteristic that turned Guimarães into what it is today.
Here, you'll make a journey to the past. It’s a perfect place to visit as a family, since the content of the exhibitions is adapted to the kids (and they'll love to find out if they're taller than the first king of Portugal!). An excellent way to get to know the city where Lusitanian history began!
Casa da Memória is also a meeting place. Be aware of the program and participate in the various events that this place organizes!
Cool Tip: On Sunday mornings, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., the entry is free!
